Design Showcase: Defeating Design Dilemmas: Aesthetic Elements

Nautically Speaking
If you want to instill tradition, or your interior tastes run to navy blue, white and varnished teak, you can enhance the theme by displaying these beautiful Czech-made pieces from Artel depicting schooners and Big Class racers in full sail in a series called "The Golden Age of Yachting." Decorative objects aboard yachts usually take rather large artistic license, but these look like they could have been pulled off a Rosenfeld photo. Artel’s glassware is hand blown by Bohemian artisans and each design is individually etched. www.artelglass.com (Click image to enlarge)

Pick a Pair
Consider the difference these two Manheim-Ruseau styles would make to the basic beige salon. For those following European traditions, the walnut "Corbe" console tables feature a hand-rubbed finish and carved cabriolet legs. Contrast these with the "Wayfarer" side tables that hint at Directoire formality but in a clean and simple form. Manheim-Ruseau is a third generation American maker of handcrafted furniture with an archival catalogue of some 2,500 pieces encompassing art deco, English, French and Italian styles. www.manheimruseau.com (Click images to enlarge)

Release Me
For a small salon that must do double duty, or for updating the aft deck, Release Marine, the well-known manufacturer of custom fighting chairs, recently expanded its custom table division. Exquisitely crafted, intricately engineered and exclusively built to order, Release tables feature adjustments for multiple heights, multiple leaves and clever hidden storage beneath beautiful tops that showcase the joiners’ artistry with inlays. www.releasemarine.com (Click image to enlarge)

PC Statement
Q Collection makes furnishings that are better for you, your boat and our planet. Stylish Q products are constructed in the United States of materials that reduce risks to health and the environment by eliminating toxic chemicals from finishes, glues and fabrics. Bring Todhunter style aboard with this transitional club chair and sofa built of organic cotton batting and organic cotton flannel muslin over natural jute webbing and natural latex foam. The sofa is shown in Q Collection’s Interstate fabric in Flax, the chair in Velluto Velvet. www.qcollection.com (Click images to enlarge)

Stuck on Beige?
Keep it, but add a strong signature color that repeats throughout. Showcase the color and reinforce your style with exquisite new crystal showing through those ubiquitous glass display cabinets. "Manhattan" from Theresienthal, and "Casino" and "Cipriani" by Dibbern offer hip shapes in an amazing array of colors in mouth-blown, hand-cut crystal from Bavaria. www.luxurylifestyle.info (Click images to enlarge)
