Lighting solutions for your interior, exterior and underwater needs.
DesignShowroom

1. Originally developed for museums, the NoUVIR (pronounced NEW-veer) fiber optic lighting system has some of the smallest and most innovative interior fixtures on the market, each with complete control over aim, focus and intensity. Dozens of luminaires are available, including floods, spots and pinspots. NoUVIR beams adjust from five to 50 degrees (close-up pin spots go down to two degrees) with clean beam edges and no spill, aberrations or halos. www.nouvir.com (Click images to enlarge)

2. Founded by lighting innovator and entrepreneur Nigel Savage, Ocean-LED manufactures the industry’s most advanced underwater fixtures. With five available outputs up to 180 watts, these lights reach full illumination in less than 100 nanoseconds and run at only 10 degrees Celsius above ambient water temperature. Lamp lifespan is projected to be more than 40,000 hours. Units are available for use in metal or composite hulls for new construction or refit. www.oceanled.com

3. For an alternative lighting solution, designer Patrick Knowles recommends a new line of wireless, battery-powered LED lamps from Frederick Cooper (available at Turner Bay in Fort Lauderdale) that can be placed anywhere; no plugs, wires or outlets needed. The options are unlimited: next to the hot tub for a romantic setting, on a table in the cockpit or on the aft deck dining table (say goodbye to those old hurricane lamps). www.frederickcooper.com (Click images to enlarge)

4. Control is a key factor in lighting design, says designer Glade Johnson, who often specifies the Lite Touch system for its capabilities and resultant lack of clutter. Another product that holds promise, he says, is EIB/Konnex, which integrates lighting, drapes, telephones, entertainment components and HVAC into a wireless system that can be managed by a single controller with built-in diagnostics. The design reduces the amount of equipment needed throughout the boat. www.litetouch.com and www.eib-home.de

5. A leading manufacturer of RGB (red/green/blue) LED lighting systems, Color Kinetics offers a wide variety of lighting solutions for interior and exterior use, including damp locations. The range of high- and low-intensity luminaires includes strip lights, accent lights, spots, wall-washers and, for a completely different look, four-square-foot tiles. All units can be controlled using a DMX512 lighting console, a PC or a Color Kinetics controller. www.colorkinetics.com (Click image to enlarge)
