Vic Franck motor yacht Handsome lines and luxurious details belie Bella Rosa’s bluewater fishing mission.

New & Notable: In Disguise

Article Design
Vic Franck 81
May has come to Seattle and, with it, the start of the boating season. Moored alongside the dock at Vic Franck’s Boat Co., appropriately dressed for the occasion in flawless navy blue and crisp white, Bella Rosa graces the waterfront, proudly proclaiming her debut into the area’s ever-growing fleet. The latest delivery from the Franck yard, she is for her owner the culmination of years of careful planning for the good life, boa vida in his patriarchal tongue.

Built on a beamy Northern Marine hull, this luxury fishing yacht has an extended aft sport deck plus four ensuite staterooms and two crew cabins. (Click on image to enlarge)

When Bella Rosa’s owner thinks about boating, he thinks about fishing. Generations of his Portuguese family have been seafarers, first as whalers in the Azores and in New Bedford, Massachusetts,  then as commercial fishermen in San Diego. It was an enticing career, especially during the heyday of the eastern Pacific tuna fishery.

“I was always around relatives who were in the business,” he recalls. “But my dad always tried to talk me out of fishing commercially. Those young men were making quite a bit of money, you see, and they’d stop going to school. My dad wanted me to get an education, so he wouldn’t allow me to go away for the long trips.”
