Best Sailing Yacht Interior ~ Maria Cattiva

Some might say that starting with Bruce King as the naval architect and Royal Huisman as the builder gives an interior designer an unfair advantage. But to interior designer Dick Young, those names represented a pretty high bar. Despite the fact Maria Cattiva is built in Alustar, she looks every inch the wooden classic and Young put a great deal of effort into creating an authentic and comfortable yacht within the rules of Lloyds and MCA and the strictures of King’s performance-oriented hull. Twin deckhouses and hatches bring light into the accommodation – there are no portholes – which is reflected by white fabrics and overheads. Even the insides of cabinets are painted white to reflect as much light as possible. The inlayed, planked mahogany floor is a work of art, as are the fiddles, brass grilles and art niches. The canopied bed is a concept borrowed from King’s earlier Alejandra, but Young gave it elaborate crown molding for extra effect.
