Best Sailing Yacht Under 40 Meters ~ Whisper
Whisper sailing yacht
Whisper sailing yacht
There were a variety of philosophies directing the yachts in this category. While unique and extreme yachts have their place, at the end of the day a yacht with long legs and capable of working through varied and difficult sea conditions without coming apart or bashing her crew is golden. The heavy, Ted Hood/Ted Fontaine round-bilge-boat philosophy has many fans among those who make long passages. With Whisper, Fontaine refined the concept for more performance and created a powerful yet not overly complex sail plan. A centerboard gives her a harbor draft of eight feet yet drops to 20 for upwind work. The high-aspect rudder also shrinks for harbor work. The deep owner’s cockpit is well protected. Andrew Winch saw romance in Whisper’s lines and with her owner’s blessing created a charter-friendly, dramatic interior. Holland Jachtbouw delivered the dream in a yacht of outstanding quality in every department.
