When Jongert set about updating its modern line, it began by quietly focusing on technical issues such as getting weight out of the boats, modernizing the rigs and improving the cockpits and deck designs. With 95-foot Ameena, the shipyard chose to step up the revolution by making comprehensive changes in her appearance and features. This cutter has a much longer waterline, proportionately, than previous Jongerts, which makes possible a finer entry, better crew quarters and a touch more speed. The major change, however, is in her dramatic composite deckhouse with its sports-coupe lines and electric sunroof capable of opening the entire space to the sun or stars. Jongert’s interiors always have been beautiful in a modernist Scandinavian way. But Ameena’s lighter pearwood interior brings additional energy below deck. At 92 tons displacement, including a fixed 10-foot, eight-inch fin keel countering a 6,006-square-foot working sail area, this 2900M has everything she needs for lively performance. Efficiently powered by a single 250-hp Caterpillar diesel, she can motor at up to 12.2 knots and delivers a 1,450-nm range on 1,000 gallons of fuel.
