Highest Technical Achievement in a Motor Yacht ~ Alfa Four
Alfa Four motor yacht
Alfa Four motor yacht

Sometimes, when a yacht is started for one client and is finished by another, the result is a litany of compromises. Not so this 196-footer. In fact, bringing a new owner to the project, who not coincidentally also decided to buy the shipyard, enabled a vessel that would have been very good to achieve greatness. As Ambrosiana, the yacht was about 50 percent complete when she was bought by Theodore and Gianna Angelopoulos for use at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Rather than just finish the boat as planned, Angelopoulos quickly analyzed every system and issued blanket orders to ramp them up to state-of-the-art. In the process, Alfa Four broke new ground, thanks to his demand that she qualify for every possible classification. Classed as Maltese Cross 100A1 Special Service Craft by Lloyd’s and approved by MCA, she also meets Hellenic Register of Shipping rules, meaning she can operate as a private or commercial vessel as required. Her electronic navigation system is so sophisticated that she is one of few yachts in the world certified under SOLAS rules to sail without paper charts.
