Selecting superlatives from a pool of contenders that represent
the highest achievements of an extraordinarily creative and vibrant industry is
a challenge. Not unlike those who judge the film industry’s Academy Awards, our
editors face difficult choices determining the winners of the ShowBoats
International Awards. Like those made in the movie business, our judgments are
somewhat subjective and reflective of personal tastes. But our group has the
background in yachting and the passion for the yachts we evaluate to know a good
one when we see her.
You may differ with our choices, but rest assured, we bring to
bear on the project the combined experience of decades spent on the water around
these magnificent machines. For countless hours we debated the merits of the
nominees, each of which at least one member of our staff went aboard.
The winners of this year’s ShowBoats International Awards,
detailed in the pages that follow, represent the pinnacle of performance among a
group of overachieving builders, designers and owners. Our coveted trophies will
be presented this year on June 26 during our annual rendezvous in Monaco. Please
join us in congratulating the best of 2007.
