Boys and Girls Clubs Bahamas fundraiser is a hit.

Waterfront: At the Hop

The Island Hop was conceived as a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County, Florida. This past April, yachts of varying descriptions, including a 44-foot Riva Rivarama, the 157-foot Trinity Lady Linda, the 112-foot Westport Kelly Sea and the 160-foot Shadow Marine yacht support vessel Mystere Shadow, along with their owners, guests and friends of the Boys and Girls Clubs, were hosted by Preben and Steven Olesen of Grand Bahama Yacht Club and Kaye Pearson and Walt McCrory of Chub Cay. By consensus, the event was a tremendous success.

The mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to help kids ages seven to 17 build self-esteem and develop strong values and useful life skills. Services and programs focus on, among other things, education, social recreation, health, leadership and cultural enrichment. We at ShowBoats International are big supporters of the organization and encourage others to join in and contribute to its growth and success.

The first three days of this newest fundraising event, chaired by Dick Seidenspinner Jr., took place on Grand Bahama Island and kicked off with a champagne reception at the Boat House, a fabulous private residence within the new Grand Bahama Yacht Club. The evening featured a performance by the Bahamian police band.

Lunch at the Ferry House Restaurant the next day was enhanced by a dolphin show followed by a private jewelry viewing at Columbian Emeralds. That evening there was a 10 Cane rum drink competition, a yacht hop and a special Junkanoo parade. Late-night dancing ensued aboard Mystere.

The third day featured a scavenger hunt and a tour of the research vessel Atlantis II, which was used to explore the wreck of the Titanic. A pirate-theme costume party, silent auction and Cirque du Soleil-type act enchanted all that evening.

On day four the yachts motored over to Chub Cay, where festivities included a welcome cocktail reception and dinner on the grand lawn, a crew party aboard Mystere, a fishing tournament and beach tennis. Saturday night was the scene of a fifties-theme dinner and rollicking sock hop. Poodle skirts flared and "Greased Lightning" blared.
