The language of Y702’s exterior design.

On the Horizon: Curb Appeal

A yacht should be designed solely for the pleasure of her owner, who, when approaching or leaving the vessel, should be filled with pride, never doubting that his or her yacht is the most beautiful in the world. Y702’s designer, Dan Lenard, points out that the yacht was built for an experienced, impassioned owner who knows well that style is a question of elegance, not only of aesthetics; that style results from having the courage to make choices, and also the courage to sometimes say no.

Style is a combination of taste, culture and originality, which together comprise the fundamentals of the designer’s art.

"OceAnco showed a great interest in building an outside-the-box design," says Lenard. "The owner found the redistribution and rescale of the volumes elegant enough to encourage the concept."

Rather than revisit tradition, Y702’s new concepts forge a visionary future for yacht design. Her profile reveals a superstructure Lenard describes as "low volume." Rather than fill up the available space with superstructure, thought was given to view and use. An example of this is the pool that converts to a helipad.

"The sculptured shapes act as architectural elements and build from the waterline to the top of the superstructure, creating the base for the cathedral-like mast," Lenard says. "The mast, vertical in the center, has side wings that complete a perceived role of the dynamics of an explosion where all the volumes concentrating toward the top are suddenly released in three directions."

What is visible is necessary—air intakes and the owner’s patio—though nothing disturbs the visual flow. Just as an architectural object communicates with the observer, the yacht has a tacit voice creating an invitation to enter. Her lines are functional yet enticing. That balance is the dialect of the architectural language the designers and builders used to create Y702.
