Among recent deliveries from Hargrave Custom Yachts, Katina could be considered a test case for how serious this company is about the word “custom” in its title. Built for a football star, the design team literally pushed the envelope to its limits to create a yacht tailored to his personal needs, while still suitable and practical for chartering during his “season.” Despite his professional acclaim, Katina’s owner is a down-to-earth family man with little appreciation for ostentation. He developed a passion for watersports with a series of smaller boats, but what he was looking for was a larger vessel that would enable relaxing days with family and friends away from the dock. | Click on the Spec and Design tab at top to see complete list of resources. |

When Craig told him Hargrave could probably build a custom boat for the same price, he agreed to let us make a presentation. (Click image to enlarge)
“Most new Hargrave customers are older and most favor the conservative style as defined by Jack Hargrave,” noted Joyce. “This owner is young, energetic and has a great sense of style. When we looked at his previous Italian yachts, his car and his clothes, we knew instantly we had a chance to do something really different with our styling.” (Click image to enlarge)
Working with one of its proven hull designs—the owner wanted to keep his boat under 100 feet LOA—Hargrave’s design team created a contemporary raised pilothouse composite superstructure with full beam salon, covered aft deck and permanent hardtop covering a well-appointed flying bridge deck. The four-stateroom, country-kitchen-equipped interior sports sapele joinery and loads of custom details from marble floors and SubZero appliances to a steam shower in the master bath and a built-in humidor. To assure privacy, the two crew staterooms are aft of the engine room with entrance from the swim platform.
