New Zealand’s Alloy Yachts launches 170-foot Red Dragon.

Alloy 170
Last fall and winter saw the launch of several significant new yachts in New Zealand. Among them was the 170-foot Dubois-designed Alloy Red Dragon. Contracted by international yachtsman Guy Ullens and his wife, Myriam, Red Dragon is the fourth yacht over 50 meters Alloy has built. She has a 33-foot, six-inch beam, draws just over 16 feet and has a displacement of 354 tons.

The design brief from Dubois Naval Architects was for a high-performance aluminum sloop configured for world cruising and able to stay operational for long periods at sea without outside assistance. The Wilmotte & Associates interior has a large salon with a formal dining area for up to 10. The styling is light, contemporary wood. Accommodations include an owner’s suite and three guest suites. She can carry 10 crew.

Her carbon-fiber mainmast towers 205 feet over the water. She has a fully battened in-boom-furling main.
