Big-boat amenities and true sportfishing qualities make Hatteras’ 64C a crowd-pleaser.

Waterfront: Convertible without Compromise

Article Specs Design
Hatteras 64C
More than 2,000 years ago Aesop wrote, "Please all, and you will please none," an axiom still commonly (mis)quoted because it’s mostly still true. Few hybrid products, such as convertible sportfishers, please completely because they are, by definition, designs of compromise. The exception that proves the rule, however, may be Hatteras’ 64C. With an ample 164-square-foot cockpit and a full-width master stateroom spread across nearly 20 feet of beam, the 64C is likely to completely satisfy both fishermen and yachties in the midsize market.

The bait-and-tackle set will appreciate the fishability of the mezzanine cockpit, which, like all recent Hatteras models, can be customized to accommodate freezers, livewells and insulated storage. The deck conceals two 62-inch fish boxes with macerators. For serious fishermen, a full-height bait prep station with an electric grill is available in lieu of the starboard mezzanine seat, as is a molded-in transom fish box. The flybridge provides plenty of lounging space and under-seat gear storage.

But what really differentiates this cross-platform cruiser is its well-designed and well-appointed interior. A standard three-stateroom, three-head arrangement provides exceptional living space. The full-beam master suite amidships yields the same amount of square footage as the master in the company’s 68 convertible. Two large portlights and a private entry foyer make it feel like a true stateroom. A suitable queen VIP is located in the bow, while a twin guestroom is to port.

The open main-deck layout, with galley overlooking the sunken salon, feels like an architectural floor plan. The salon’s U-shaped sofa, 42-inch plasma TV and full entertainment system complete the homey picture.

One sure sign that this boat is more than just a dressed-up fishing boat: Its 15 available décor packages have names like Espresso, Latte, Cerise and Soleil, each complemented by cherry joinery. Sounds like this hybrid has something to please everyone.
