Bearing little resemblance to her sisterships, Figi is as personalized as a semi-custom build can get.

Waterfront: Custom, With Little "Semi" About It

Article Specs
Guy Couach 96
To call Guy Couach-built boats “semi-custom” seems unfair to vessels on the market that truly are—they would pale by comparison. While there is no “mostly custom” designation in the industry, perhaps there should be for yachts such as Figi. This recent launch in the Bordeaux-region yard’s 2800 Long Range line shares only her deep-V hull form, basic electronics and twin 2,000-hp MTU engines with her siblings. Everything else, including her Ferrari-red paint scheme, is tailored to the owner’s desire.

This “mostly custom” philosophy has served the 108-year-old company well since its buy out by Didier Cazeaux in 1996. Couach recently acquired the IMS yard on the Bay of Toulon and created the Couach Yacht Centre on the Mediterranean. The company also debuted plans for a 33-meter fly bridge model at the Cannes boat show. That boat, like 30-meter Figi, will be a performance boat. Making extensive use of carbon fiber and honeycomb construction, Figi displaces just 75 tons, enabling her to reach 32 knots and cruise at 26. As the Long Range moniker implies, this boat covers a good distance in little time, making 900 nautical miles at a hair-tangling 25 knots. (Click image to enlarge)

Her four-stateroom interior is Euro masculine, swathed in leather and Alcantara in black, gray and ruby. A black overhead in the salon and red carpeting on the main deck are offset by high-gloss cherry joinery, which seems neutral by comparison. An open galley faces out onto a dining area that seats eight. Guest accommodations for six—two twins and a queen on the lower deck—are more sedate, done in beige and salmon with gold accents. The full-beam owner’s stateroom, amidships on the lower deck, is equipped with a Turkish bath. Quarters for three crew occupy the forepeak. (Click image to enlarge)

But go-fast boats are about enjoying going fast, and Figi’s fly bridge is perfect for this. The upper deck offers a Jacuzzi, a bar, a dining area and plenty of lounging space. There is also a large bimini to keep guests from turning as red as Figi’s hull. (Click image to enlarge)
