Sunreef diversifies its order book as sailing catamaran orders increase.

Waterfront: Different Strokes

Sunreef 74
In 2003, Sunreef Yachts launched the 74-foot sailing catamaran CHE from its yard in Gdansk, Poland. It would be the French-based company’s flagship and herald an eight-model line of 60- to 122-foot catamarans that clients could build and then place with Sunreef’s charter division.

CHE showcased the yard’s ability to produce a yacht-quality sailing catamaran able to withstand transatlantic crossings between Caribbean and Mediterranean charter grounds, while also maintaining a fit and finish that could be displayed effectively at boat shows.

The hallmarks of the line are a spacious salon and a large aft deck covered by a social/working flybridge, popular features with charter guests. The quality of the yachts, the yard’s willingness and ability to build to an owner’s wishes, and the successful charter program are attracting owners from Mexico, Australia and South Africa, as well as Europe. The second launch was the all-composite 60-foot Mission—which sails privately under the Breitling flag. The next launch, 62-foot Mr. T, combined an aluminum hull with a composite superstructure. Mr. T demonstrated her light-air ability off Miami, Florida, after the 2006 boat show. The yard’s fifth catamaran, 62-foot Trigger, was launched in April. Aboard privately owned Trigger, the owner’s suite occupies the entire starboard hull. The portside hull sleeps four in two ensuite double cabins. Trigger is an all-aluminum boat with an 82-foot carbon-fiber rig.

Currently, the yard has four 62-foot sailing catamarans under construction. The design of a 122-footer has been finalized, and the yard is awaiting the client’s signature.

Sunreef is diversifying, and it has a 67-foot power catamaran under construction in Gdansk. In May, Sunreef launched its first 60-foot aluminum monohull. Intended for fast cruising, it features twin rudders and a bulb keel. Below is a huge salon and accommodations for six in the large owner’s suite forward and two stern guest staterooms.
