Luxury diesel superboat makes her debut.

Who needs a helicopter when you
can careen up and down the coast in hyper-speed luxury? England’s XSMG Marine
has created what it calls "the world’s fastest and most exclusive diesel
production boat." The 48-foot yacht is powered by a pair of 800-hp Isotta
Fraschini diesels capable of propelling it to more than 90 miles per hour.
The diesels turn a ZF Trimax surface-drive propulsion system
through ZF two-speed gearboxes. The builders say it will top 100 miles per hour
with more powerful race-tuned engines.
Partners in the project include Isotta Fraschini, superyacht
designers Redman Whiteley Dixon, race-boat designer Fabio Buzzi, structural
engineers High Modulus and hull fabricators Green Marine. Assembly was done at
Berthon Shipyard.
As the builders search for buyers, they will conduct a series
of world record attempts to prove the boat in extreme conditions. They hope the
vessel will appeal to superyacht owners as a tender.
