De Vries yard breaks the mold with Predator.
Waterfront: Feadship Bows to Speed

Feadship 239
Feadship’s De Vries yard launched an unusual yacht in January that should turn heads and make some rethink traditional hull design. The 239-foot Predator slipped into the water stern-first, but the story is at her bow. At the direction of her owner, Feadship De Vries and De Voogt Naval Architects created what they describe as a "super-sleek and highly sophisticated yacht that is genuinely innovative." A key component of that innovation is the yacht’s reverse bow (photo available after sea trials). Its unconventional shape is designed to slice through the waves and help Predator reach a top speed of more than 25 knots.

Other factors contributing to the yacht’s fleet-footedness are relatively low weight, strength and rigidity gained from her longitudinally framed steel hull and her four MTU diesels that generate in excess of 23,000 horsepower. She is fitted with Rolls-Royce controllable-pitch propellers and has transatlantic range.

Her interior is by Bannenberg Designs Ltd. and is finished in Karelian birch, Makassar ebony and zebrano.
