Kanter/Paine Team Up on RPH Cruiser.

Two companies have risen to the challenge of taking one of the
most popular yacht designs – the raised pilothouse cruiser – and creating
something different. C.W. Paine Yacht Design of Camden, Maine, and shipbuilder
Kanter Yachts of Ontario, Canada, have teamed up to create a yacht that
represents a painstaking study in detail – the Kanter 74.
Launched in September 2004, the 74’s fine points are atypical
for yachts in her size range. She features full side decks for passage fore and
aft in order to ensure uninterrupted solitude for guests relaxing in the main
salon. With one less stateroom than in comparably sized vessels, the 74’s two
guest cabins are noticeably more spacious. In the full-beam master, an ensuite
shower and head effectively buffer noise from the engine room. The 74’s aluminum
construction, with its high strength-to-weight ratio, is also a refreshing
change from the fiberglass molds that dominate this size category. (Click images to enlarge)

C.W. Paine Yacht Design left no detail untouched, even below
the waterline. Efficient performance is ensured by the hull’s round bilge
forward transitioning to a chine aft, with a single spray line. A full-length
keel reduces the risk of grounding and dampens the yacht’s roll in a seaway.
Featuring an engine room with full standing headroom, the Kanter 74 is
powered by twin Caterpillar C12s. At a cruising speed of 9.5 knots, she has a
range of 2,800 nautical miles, permitting a transatlantic voyage via the
Bermudas/Azores route.
