Waterfront: Greek Spirit
Mondomarine Splashes Brandy Maker Metaxa’s Kimberly II.

Mondomarine 138
The 48th yacht launched by Italian shipyard Mondomarine is 42-meter (138-foot) Kimberly II, built for Greek spirits manufacturer Spyros Metaxa. Studio Ruggiero in Genoa, Italy, created the design package for this steel-hulled displacement vessel. Powered by twin 1,500-hp Caterpillar 3508Bs, she tops out at 16.5 knots and cruises at a comfortable 15 knots.

Her interior layout is fairly traditional, with the salon, dining room and owner’s suite located on the main deck. Eight guests are accommodated in four spacious lower-deck staterooms configured as two doubles and two twins. Six crew cabins are in the bow, while the captain, chief engineer and housekeeper are all housed on the upper deck. The yacht’s large sun deck is its prime gathering spot and features a bar, Jacuzzi and comfortable sun lounges.

Five more motor yachts are currently in build at the shipyard, including a 50-meter expedition vessel due for delivery in 2007 to Luciano Benetton, chairman of the Benetton Group. With these projects, Mondomarine truly has arrived on the international superyacht scene.
