New Nordhavn Flagship Raises the Bar.

Waterfront: Jewel Box

Article Specs
Nordhavn 72
There is a new kid on the block, and the yachting industry is taking notice. The Nordhavn 72 is the new flagship of Pacific Asian Enterprises, and the culmination of a quarter century of naval architect Jeff Leishman’s successful designs.

While the N72 is a production boat, she is at the same time a floating jewel box. At every turn she reveals striking degrees of sophistication and elegance, and a generous amount of affordable comfort. The owners of Hull No. 1, called Mighty Mouse, commissioned Scott Cole of Ardeo Design to create the contemporary European-style interior.

"She is quite literally the flagship of our fleet, our biggest and most glamorous boat," said Dan Streech, company founder and partner.

The name Nordhavn became synonymous with passagemaking under power in 1989 when the company built its Nordhavn 46, which helped to debunk the myth that owner-operators couldn’t cross oceans in small powerboats. The N72 continues this tradition with an efficient layout that makes the boat easy to manage by two.

The N72, while only 10 feet longer than its N62 predecessor, offers nearly twice the interior volume. It is offered in two configurations – standard or aft pilothouse – which both have four-cabin, four-head interior layouts.

The new boat’s beam is carried far back and down close to the waterline to produce a more seakindly full-displacement hull that is less prone to pitching, with more initial stability.

Build options include a bulb bow, single or twin engines and a wide-body configuration.
