Two hulls are better than one, according to French
builder Blubay Yachts. With twin high-tech sponsons and an exotic rig,
Allures, the shipyard’s new 30.8-meter (101-foot) catamaran, cruises under sail at
speeds in excess of 20 knots.
Blubay, which boasts an aviation pedigree, tank-tested the
double-hull design before construction. Layup utilized SP Systems’
pre-impregnated epoxy resin, carbon fiber, Nomex and Corecell. The
37-meter rotating mast supports a 499-square-meter sail plan. Allures is also
equipped with twin 380-hp Cummins engines capable of 16 knots. The beauty of the
big cat’s ride is complete stability whether under sail or power, thanks to a
hull span of 13.25 meters.
But Allures is not merely a performer, she is also a
luxury mega-yacht. Each hull holds two guest staterooms and a double crew cabin,
while the owner’s suite with duplex bath is on the main deck. Up on the
flybridge, the sunbathing and open-air dining areas provide spectacular views
at speed.
