Larger, yes, but more important, the second Marquis is a significant step forward in design and engineering.

Waterfront: Not Just Bigger, Better

Marquis 65
In his 2004 documentary Super Size Me, American director Morgan Spurlock told his fellow countrymen that, despite prevailing marketing trends, bigger is not always better—a "secret" the rest of the world has always known. So when Wisconsin-based Carver Yachts launched the second entry in its premier Marquis line, some wondered if it would be better or—at 65 feet—merely 6 feet longer than the initial 59-foot offering. In this case, however, bigger actually is better.

The 65 improves on both the Italian-style exterior design created by big-boat team Nuvolari-Lenard, and the original 59 interior plans by A La Mer.

From the outside, the 65 simply has better proportions than her smaller sibling. The extra footage allows her lines to take their rightful shape and flow.

Inside, Carver’s engineers redefined where space was allotted by first creating full-size scale models to walk through. At the end of the exercise, they decided to limit changes to the forepeak VIP and amidships master suites. The guest suite, however, was also reworked for better space utilization. They also managed 80 inches of headroom belowdecks, so this midsize package would not feel so midsized.

The 65 is also well appointed. Italian marble is used on bedroom and bathroom vanities, as well as on the floor of the lower landing. Owners can choose Indian or Chinese granite for the countertops. Cherry is used for crown moldings and joinery, which is accented by sapele pommele inlays. Solid cherry doors are another nice touch.

The Carver team also maximized the vessel’s working spaces by moving the gensets, watermakers and other mechanicals out of the engine room and into compartments outboard of the optional aft crew quarters.

Perhaps most important is the one-piece construction of the composite superstructure and main-deck sole. This nice bit of engineering eliminates any possibility of leaks and structural noise while improving the vessel’s overall integrity.

Yes, bigger; yes, better.
