Italian refit yard gives new life to 26-meter classic.

Ocean Glory, an 85-foot classic motor yacht,
began life in 1935 when she was launched as Destiny
from the Glaswegian shipyard of Yarrow & Company. After several name changes
and a checkered history that took her to Mauritius in the 1990s, she was finally
acquired by Alberto Amico, owner of the refit yard Amico & Co in Genoa,
where she underwent a three-year makeover. This involved a complete rebuild of
the interior and onboard systems, including the addition of two Northern
Lights generators, KoopNautic stabilizer fins and new air conditioning, plumbing
and electrics. Her two 150-hp, eight-cylinder Gardner engines were thoroughly
overhauled instead of replaced. The whole process was supervised by RINA for 100
A1.1 "Y" class certification and compliance with MCA’s Small Commercial Vessels
regulations.

The result is a small gem of a yacht that can cruise sedately
at 10 to 12 knots and has functional, yet elegant living and dining areas on the
main deck and comfortable lower-deck accommodations for eight. Careful attention
was paid to maintaining the yacht’s classic heritage, and her simple décor is a
tasteful mélange of warm wood, off-white fabrics and bordeaux leather
upholstery. On the accommodations deck, the polished teak decking was replaced
with chocolate brown leather floor tiles. From the wheelhouse, with its original
brass binnacle, there is access to the large sun deck, which has a shaded dining
area and housing for two tenders.

The Amico family has been involved in the naval repair business
since 1885, and Amico & Co is a top Italian refit yard for vessels 40 to 100
meters. In 2005, the yard was awarded ISO 14001 certification for its
environmental management system.
