Waterfront: Peer Pressure
Farmont Yachts delivers first of new trawler series.

Article Specs Design
Farmont 70
With a name like Med Adventure, it’s fairly clear where her owners plan to cruise the first Farmont 70. But this explorer-style yacht designed by René van der Velden can go much farther; she was created for around-the-world cruising with a seaworthy hull form and long-range ability.

Med Adventure is the first offering from Farmont Yachts, formerly known as Peer Gynt International. Two years ago, Peer Gynt shifted its focus from building custom steel yachts to building semi-production GRP trawlers. The yard’s recent name and management change coincided with the first launch of this new series. Two more 70s are currently under construction.

The new yacht’s 70-foot LOA full-displacement hull enjoys maximum interior space with a lengthy 67 feet on the waterline and a beam of 20 feet, four inches. The interior, fabricated by Metrica, contrasts American cherry veneer and white lacquer. Med Adventure was designed specifically for live-aboard owners, with a full-beam owner’s cabin and just one other guest cabin. A small crew cabin is aft of the engine room. Each cabin features an ensuite bath finished in beige marble. The second 70 will employ a more traditional layout with three staterooms plus a crew cabin.

The go-anywhere Farmont 70 is built of a composite of epoxy, E-glass and CoreCell and displaces 100 tons at full load. An Avon Seajet 400 tender is carried on the foredeck. A pair of 480-hp Caterpillars push Med Adventure to a top speed of 12 knots and at 10 knots she’ll cruise for 4,000 nautical miles.
