Delivered to her Italian owner last July, Papinou upholds C.B.I. Navi’s
reputation for building yachts with excellent sea-keeping qualities combined
with low noise and vibration levels. The 34-meter tri-deck has a
full-displacement hull and steel-and-aluminum construction. Her rounded stern
and classic profile are based on 111-foot Spada by Dutch naval architect Willem
De Vries Lentsch, while the interior is the work of Italian designer Umberto
Tagliavini of Marine Design.
“Soundproofed floating floors and ceilings mean
noise levels have been reduced to a quiet forty-eight decibels while
under way and forty-two decibels at anchor with generators and air
conditioners full on,” says Papinou project manager Sara Maggi. “As far as
performance is concerned, the hull was tank-tested in Vienna and although she
only has four hundred seventy-five-horsepower engines, she can make a very
respectable twelve knots.” Stable handling is assured both under way and at
anchor thanks to her broad, 26-foot beam and zero-speed stabilization
system.
Makoré and cypress paneling combine with off-white soft furnishings
throughout for an interior that is sober yet smart. The main deck features an
airy, well-lit lounge with sliding doors that open onto an office-cum-study
area. Forward lies the full-beam owner’s stateroom. The main dining area, which
seats 10, is located on the upper deck adjacent to the skylounge and is serviced
by a dumbwaiter from the main-deck galley. Lower-deck accommodation includes two
VIP cabins with double beds and ensuite bathrooms, and two guest cabins with
twin beds and bathrooms. The crew area is forward, comprising four cabins and a
laundry area.
