Royal Denship’s 45-knot 82 Open offers performance, lifestyle and a choice of layouts.

Waterfront: Production Speedster

Article Specs
Royal Denship 82
To develop a production range of yachts—a departure from its custom-builder roots—Royal Denship selected Bill Dixon to design a yacht that would compete in the burgeoning open-yacht market. It started out as an 80-footer, which won an International Superyacht Society design award for Best Power Yacht 23 to 32 meters in length.

Then the overall length was increased by two feet to take advantage of the performance offered by the New Zealand-built Q-SPD Surface Drives. Of the three surface-piercing power options, Louise’s owner selected a pair of 2,000-hp MTU M91 V16 engines to deliver a 45-knot top speed.

Louise is the first 82 Open delivered to the United States. Configured for charter, she has a twin ensuite crew cabin and galley abaft the accommodations. Access is down a stairway behind the wet bar in the salon. Louise will continue to charter in the Caribbean for the 2008 season.

The stairway to the three guest cabins and the owner’s suite is to port of the helm. The full-beam, amidships suite includes a king-size berth, settee, vanity and ensuite bath. Large side windows, a huge windshield, a sunroof and glass sliders to the aft deck bathe the main deck in natural light.

The lazarette stows a PWC and an 11.5-foot tender. Rising as one with the center portion of the swim platform, the transom eases tender handling; access is via fixed transom stairs on either side. The centerline helm, with three captain’s chairs, is separated from intrusive salon lighting by a divider that changes from clear to opaque. Topside, there is a sun pad on the coachroof, wide walkaround decks and an aft-deck table with settee. Louise is equipped throughout with a Lantic entertainment and vessel management system.
