Abely
Wheeler looks as though she is meant to stroll along the Mediterranean coast,
harbor-hopping between Portofino and Cannes. Yet her classic aesthetics also
intimate a hull designed to go the distance. She is equally capable of far-flung
voyages to remote spots around the world. Built by OCEA, the once commercially
focused French shipyard, she is the second in the builder’s Commuter Yacht
series.
Implementing proven skills and expertise in naval architecture and construction, OCEA has created a yacht with superior seakeeping ability achieved via a long, hard-chined hull with aft skegs and stabilizer fins. The first Commuter, a 130-foot yacht built with the same underbody as Abely Wheeler, encountered heavy six-meter seas off the Portuguese coast on her way to Gibraltar, yet she averaged an impressive 15 knots for 16 hours, arriving in fine condition. While Abely Wheeler exhibits venerable seaworthiness, it is
her outstanding range that makes long hauls possible. Powered by twin MTU series
60 engines, rated 600 horsepower at 2,100 rpm, the 108 Commuter Yacht can go
more than 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Her exceptional range, partly due to
a lightweight aluminum hull and superstructure, is in keeping with the
designer’s commitment to building yachts with transoceanic programs. (Click image to enlarge)Contact OCEA Yacht Department at 33 (0) 2 51 21 05 90. www.ocea.fr |
