East-West European Venture Puts Russian Shipyard in the Game.
Waterfront: Russian Revival

Russian builder Moscow Shipyard has partnered with Western European firms to make a serious bid at expansion into the luxury yacht market. To shed the stigma some Westerners associate with all things Russian, the company is marketing its boats under the brand name Timmerman Yachts through YCO Yacht Brokerage.

Working with Dutch firms Guido de Groot Design, Ginton Naval Architects and Vripack Yachting International, and English designers Jon Bannenberg Ltd. and Francis Design, the company has launched four yachts sized from 31 to 38 meters (102 to 125 feet) since 2001. It also has five builds under construction for delivery in 2006 and 2007, two of which are more than 100 feet.

With naval architecture, exterior and interior design by Vripack, Hull No. 381 is an MCA-compliant 38-meter (125-foot) yacht with a beam of 8.5 meters (28 feet). Her five classically styled staterooms will accommodate 10 guests. She will be powered by twin 600-hp Caterpillar 3406E engines, giving her a 4,000-nm range at 13 knots. Delivery is slated for June 2007.

Hull No. 311 is a 31-meter (102-foot) yacht with exterior and interior designs by Guido de Groot and naval architecture by Jaron Ginton. The second boat based on this raised-pilothouse design, she will feature a larger, 7.5-meter (25-foot) beam. A traditional interior will include four staterooms for eight guests. Twin 475-hp Caterpillars will give her a cruising speed of 12.5 knots. She is due in July 2007.
