Dutch Designer and Builder Partner Again on Race-Bred Schooner.

Named for one of Holland’s Frisian islands, Skylge, a
40-meter two-masted schooner, is the newest collaboration between Holland
Jachtbouw and Hoek Design. Vintage 1920s-era exterior styling provides
personality and warmth that belie her efficient race-bred engineering.
She is athletic, with low freeboard, a flush deck, long overhangs
and a length at waterline of just under 27 meters. A nicely proportioned
beam of 7.45 meters will provide plenty of room for company and crew.
A ballast bulb-equipped aluminum lifting keel with a draft of
three to five meters and twin carbon fiber masts are the perfect platform
for her high-aspect mainsail, full-roach foresail and two asymmetrical
spinnakers. When the wind is down, Skylge can
still make way under power from her 425-hp Lugger diesel.
Her contemporary Scandinavian-inspired interior is also created by
Hoek. The low-profile pilothouse, fitted with light cherry joinery,
includes a main salon, the primary dining table and a navigation desk, but –
at the request of her sailor owners – no helm station. Steering is done at the
cockpit pilot station.
The double master suite, double stateroom and two twin guest
cabins, all of which include private heads, lie forward of the
lower-deck salon. The captain’s quarters and twin crew cabins are
forward the guest rooms.
Skylge is slated for delivery later this
year.
