After 40 years building the Swan line of sailing yachts, the Nautor Group is
expanding into custom construction. Clients can work with Nautor’s team of naval
architects and interior designers or employ an outside designer of their choice.
Tom Blomgren, director of the Custom Yachts division, says, “With Nautor’s new
facilities at the Boat Building Technology Centre in Pietarssari, we have the
perfect infrastructure and expertise to implement such a dedicated
division.”
Jumpstarting the new program is a contract for the Finnish
Shipyard’s largest build to date. The German Frers-designed 131-foot sloop will
feature an interior by Dick Young Designs. It is currently under construction
for a 2006 delivery to a European client.
The interior will break with
the teak tradition and utilize anigre and polished walnut. Innovative clear
glass paneling connects the upper and lower salons, allowing natural light to
enter belowdecks. Accommodations forward in the hull include a full-beam owner’s
stateroom and two guest cabins.
