Waterfront: Tasmanian Giant
Super Trimaran to Sail the Southern Sea.

NWBS 200
In early March, after 12 months in design and two years under construction, the much-anticipated 61-meter trimaran splashed at Tasmania’s North West Bay Ships. It marks the shipyard’s successful transition from commercial to private megayacht construction.

Desiring a vessel both unique and exceptionally stable, an experienced yachtsman pioneered this project. He contracted with NWBS after seatrialing the shipyard’s 55-meter fast ferry trimaran. He then retained Sam Sorgiovanni for the interior and exterior styling.

The yacht’s 50-foot beam provides stability while the slender hull forms, powered by twin 2,100-hp Caterpillar 3512BTA diesels, are projected to move her along at approximately 20 knots. The interior volume is predictably massive, featuring high ceilings, a main-deck master suite and five guest staterooms on the upper deck.

The Southern Ocean, south of Tasmania, will provide a proving test ground for the yacht’s seakeeping abilities during sea trials.
