The 70
WallyPower continues the Italian boatyard’s tradition of integrating bold design
with innovative technology, combining the open-air lifestyle epitomized by the
WallyTender series with the aggressive hull lines of the groundbreaking 118
WallyPower.
"Rather than concentrate on sheer speed," explains company chairman Luca Bassani, "the GRP hull was tank-tested to optimize sea holding and safety." As on the 118, Wally’s "interceptor" flaps reduce drag by raising or lowering the bow during the transition or "hump" zone when the hull changes from predominantly hydrodynamic lift to aerodynamic lift. In this way, Wally claims that the 70 can maintain 30 knots in moderate seas and a Force-4 breeze. Rolls-Royce waterjets have been chosen over surface props, which means a slight reduction in top speed but improved maneuverability and reduced vibration. (Click image to enlarge)
As with all Wallys, design details make all the difference: Teak decking,
for instance, is used throughout to blur the distinction between inside and out.
High bulwarks mean that small children can roam the deck in safety. Wally |
