Ugo Garassino, Azimut’s new deputy general manager.

Respected interior designer Paola D. Smith passed away on December 22, after a private battle with cancer. Although Smith’s early career included modeling, television and music, she was best known for her yacht interiors. Having attended the Parsons School of Design in Manhattan, she began her interior design career 30 years ago, after moving to Fort Lauderdale. Among her many awards were three from ShowBoats International, two for Gallant Lady yachts. Her firm, Paola D. Smith & Associates, will carry on with Janet L. Schlembach, vice president, and Smith’s daughter, Paola Elizabeth Miller, as principals. Visit www.pdsdesign.net.

Grand Harbour Marina, the subsidiary of Camper & Nicholsons Marina Investments, has concluded the grant of berths for long-term use to three 75-meter yachts at Grand Harbour Marina, Malta. GHM has now licensed 10 superyacht berths on a long-term basis and has 23 more that it intends to release in phases for long-term licensing. In other news, CNMI acquired the marina at Port Louis Grenada in an agreement that will have CNMI complete the marina development and manage the operation of the marina itself. Hill Robinson Yacht Management Consultants expands its activities in the United States this year with the appointment of Michael Reardon as president of Hill Robinson USA, and the opening of a new office in Fort Lauderdale. Visit www.hillrobinson.com.

The sales division of Northrop and Johnson added three new members to its team. David Roscow and Gregg Morton joined Northrop and Johnson as brokers, and Sue Fewster has come on as the West Coast administrator. Visit www.northropandjohnson.com.

Yacht Concierge opened at the La Ciotat shipyard in France. Yacht Concierge, formed by previous EuroYacht owner Fred Verrons and seasoned shipping agent Romain Vidal, provides logistical support for superyacht crew while their vessels undergo repair and refit work. Visit www.monacomarine.com.

Azimut Yachts announced the appointment of Ugo Garassino to the position of deputy general manager. Garassino moves from commercial director, where he developed one of the most complete and efficient sales networks in the world of yachting, extending to 60 countries with 130 dealership sites. Following the cooperative partnership with BBC Chartering & Logistics, Dockwise Yacht Transport announced several new transport routes, including Dubai, Southampton and Aarhus. The BBC ships added to the mix of the DYT fleet will use the traditional lift-on/lift-off service, while the DYT vessels continue to use semi-submersible dock bays that allow yachts of any size to be floated on and off as cargo.
