America’s favorite sailor, Dennis Conner, cuts the ceremonial ribbon launching the future of North Cove.

America’s Cup champion Dennis Conner cut the red ribbon launching the renaissance of lower Manhattan’s North Cove Marina, a boating address once referred to as "Monaco of the Hudson." The June 2 ceremony signaled a new era for the marina, which is now run by North Cove Marina Management with Conner as chairman of the board. The legendary yachtsman’s involvement has already put North Cove back on the map. A steady influx of yachts has come to visit, and future international sailing events are in the works. A new alliance between Carver Yachts and Dominator Yachts will provide Italian yacht design firm Nuvolari Lenard with a worldwide distribution network for its 62-, 64-, 68-, 78-, 82-, 86- and 90-foot yachts. All models will be produced in Italy and will be offered in Europe by Dominator. Carver will sell 62- through 68-foot Nuvari Yachts in North and South America. Visit www.carveryachts.com.

On June 1, Harbour Towne Marina in Dania Beach, Florida, became the new home of Sunseeker Florida. The decision to relocate its operation from Pompano Beach was a direct result of improved sales, particularly among the company’s larger models. The Florida-based distributor will enjoy new offices and showrooms, in addition to a well-serviced marina with direct access to the ocean. Visit www.sunseeker.com.

CRN appointed Vasco Buonpensiere sales manager for the steel and aluminum production line. After grad-uating with a law degree, Buonpensiere established a career in sales with several high-profile companies such Waterman Exclusive Yacht Services, Royal Denship and Moravia of Monte Carlo, all of which enhanced his ability to pursue the sale and management of megayachts. San Diego’s Kona Kai Marina, near Point Loma Inlet, announced the completion of the Kona portion of the marina. The new facility offers 250 slips, concrete docks and high-capacity utilities. The marina’s modernization continues with the reconstruction of its 260 existing slips, which is scheduled for completion in December 2005. Since the beginning of this year, Kona Kai Marina has been able to accommodate vessels up to 200 feet. Visit www.konakaimarina.com.

Vripack Naval Architects appointed Marnix Hoekstra new sales director for their head office in Sneek, The Netherlands. Hoekstra, along with Managing Director Peter Naeyé, will supervise sales activities for projects of all sizes. On May 26-27, Kuala Lumpar welcomed an international audience attending its inaugural nautical symposium Yangon to Manila Bay: A New Cruising Playground. Named after the arc of water around Malaysia and surrounding countries, the event served as a catalyst to further the growth of the marine tourism industry as well as the sailing industry. The World Tourism Organization has acknowledged Malaysia’s yachting market is "the fastest growing sector, but yet to achieve its full potential." The symposium is an ongoing effort by Malaysia to promote the region as a seamless cruising playground for recreational boating. The symposium will return to Maylasia next year.
