Talented Firms Lined Up to Work on 52-Meter Ketch.
Waterfront: All-Star Team

Sparkman & Stephens 171
Famous naval architecture firm Sparkman & Stephens has teamed with noted interior design company Redman Whiteley Dixon to build a 52-meter (171-foot) cruising ketch for an experienced sailor. Paul Johnson of Marine Design & Consultancy, whose résumé includes 75-meter Mirabella V, will serve as project manager. RMK Yachts, a new division of RMK Marine in Tuzla, Turkey, will construct the ketch, which will be the shipyard’s first sailing yacht and its biggest project to date.

S&S Design No. 2725 combines the 75-year-old firm’s traditional sheer, overhangs, transom and teak trim with a contemporary raised pilothouse. The yacht’s interior features raised-and-fielded teak paneling and marble stonework, with fiddles and handholds throughout for safety under sail. The hull and the carbon-fiber rig are designed to maximize the amount of time the owner can cruise without switching on the engine. The huge flybridge will allow guests to experience the thrill of the massive 999-square-meter sail plan in flight.
