Waterfront: Broward is Building Again
Evan Marshall Styles a Pair of 120-Footers.

Broward 120
Under new ownership, Broward Marine of Fort Lauderdale has started building two 120-foot aluminum motor yachts on spec. They feature 24-foot-beam hulls and are styled inside and out by Evan Marshall.

Yard owner Tom Lewis utilized focus groups to help define the new Broward product, then fielded proposals from four design firms. "Research told us the most successful design would be grounded in the American format but have European influences," Lewis said.

The innovative 120-foot raised pilothouse has both a country kitchen and a master stateroom on the main deck, achieved by orienting the galley fore and aft. Ample crew quarters are below forward, leaving room for a gym, toy garage or engineer’s cabin aft. Marshall has also completed designs for 137-foot and 160-foot Broward tri-decks.

"Today’s younger boat buyer doesn’t want a project," says Lewis. "We are offering a semi-custom 120-footer with walkaround decks or a full-beam salon, two interior joinery styles and two layouts based on a five-stateroom plan. The customer picks soft goods and surfaces, and we keep on schedule." Standard are twin Cat C32 diesels that generate 1,825 horsepower at 18 knots cruising speed. The first 120 will debut in September 2006 priced under $10 million.
