Waterfront: El Lobo Returns
An old yacht design inspires a new sportfisher.

El Lobo 80
What do a 101-foot Dutch-built Diaship and a Pacific Northwest 80-footer have in common? Similar sleek lines, serious fishing capabilities and a well-appointed interior, to name just a few things. The latest El Lobo under construction at NorthStar Yachts in Washington State draws much from her predecessor of the same name. According to the builder, the U.S. West Coast-based owner was looking for Dutch quality closer to home.

Designed by Apollonio Naval Architecture, the 80-foot fiberglass sportfisher will be the first of a new series for NorthStar. Extensive model tests projected performance exceeding 35 knots, thanks to twin MTU 16V 2000s. A wide 23-foot beam provides stability and interior volume for an open-plan salon/galley, a skylounge and four staterooms. The new El Lobo is due to launch in fall 2005.
