Waterfront: Fifty is Nifty

With applause from April’s launch of 40-meter Antares still echoing from the rafters, Royal Huisman’s shipwrights returned to their tools for a pair of new 50-meter-plus projects. Though vastly different, both yachts are inspired by earlier Huisman launches and both will utilize Alustar alloy.

The first is 51.59-meter Meteor, a slim, classic gaff schooner inspired by 50-meter Borkumriff IV (2002). Meteor’s classic lines are by Gerard Dijkstra and John G. Alden Design. Her interior scheme shows John Munford’s Edwardian inspiration. Guest areas include upper and lower salons and a protected cockpit between two deckhouses. Meteor is scheduled for a June 2007 delivery.
Ethereal is a larger version of 1993’s precedent-setting Juliet. Designers Ron Holland and Pieter Beeldsnijder have reunited for this 57.4-meter contemporary ketch. Built for world cruising, she will outweigh Meteor by more than 130 displacement tons and provide significantly more volume. Ethereal’s accommodation includes three guest staterooms, a library and large owner’s suite aft. She also offers upper and lower salons, and a hardtop partially covers her cockpit. A July 2008 delivery is anticipated.
