Italian shipyard begins first superyacht.
Waterfront: Fincantieri Thinks Big

Fincantieri’s shipyard in Muggiano-La Spezia, Italy, laid the keel recently for the company’s first superyacht. When launched in 2010, the 134-meter yacht will be one of the largest in the world. Fincantieri developed the project from a concept design from Espen Øino. The yacht will have seven decks, a hangar and two helicopter landing platforms in addition to a large seawater pool that can also be used for tender docking. She will have a submarine capable of depths of up to 100 meters.

The yacht will have 4,500 square meters of interior space including 2,700 square meters of luxury space designed by Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design.

Fincantieri has built more than 400 ships for navies and cruise lines. It built the yacht Destriero, which won the Blue Riband in 1992, setting the record for crossing the Atlantic without refueling at an average speed of more than 53 knots.
