Intermarine Starts First of Four Shared Ownerships.
Waterfront: Fractional Fun

Notable for his military-looking Izanami launched in 1993, architect Lord Norman Foster is making another foray into the superyacht world. In a partnership with London-based entrepreneur Hans Verstraete’s YachtPlus fractional ownership scheme, Foster & Partners has revealed its design for a radically styled 121-foot displacement motor yacht. Designed over four deck levels with accommodation in five double cabins, the superstructure is carried well forward in a continuous curve so as to maximize space on the upper decks with interiors characterized as "light, modern and warm." The projected fleet of yachts will be divided into eight shares of approximately $1.5 million each, plus annual maintenance of about $154,000. Production has already begun at Intermarine (Rodriguez Cantieri Navali) in Italy on the initial order of three units, with the first due for launch in March 2007. Subscriptions have opened for a fourth hull. Powered by twin 1,800-hp Cat engines, the Signature Series yachts will have a top speed of 17.5 knots. Foster was attracted to the fractional concept because it facilitates year-round use of the yacht and was "an invitation to think afresh the concept of a 37-meter luxury yacht from a broad brush strategy down to the smallest detail."
