Funding Is Found to Restore 1885 Schooner Coronet.

Waterfront: Great Lady Rescued

Since 1980, the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) in Newport, Rhode Island, has mounted a campaign to save the 40.5-meter (133-foot) schooner Coronet, one of the last survivors of yachting’s golden era at the end of the nineteenth century. Although the grand lady has fallen into disrepair, her future is now assured thanks to the intervention of Coronet Restoration Partners, a new organization led by Jeffery Rutherford of Rutherford Boat Works in San Francisco and classic boat restoration expert Robert McNeil. Coronet will be restored at the IYRS campus to the highest historical standards, and then she will serve as an educational attraction in Newport.
