Mochi Craft shows new colors with its Long Range 23.

Article Specs
At a press conference in Milan, Italy, last July, the Ferretti Group presented a cutting-edge, tri-deck motor yacht currently in build under the Mochi Craft brand name. What makes the Long Range 23 special is its "Zero Emission Mode" hybrid propulsion system developed by Ferretti’s Advanced Yacht Technology (AYT) division. The system allows the 75-footer (23-meter) to be managed in five different ways using various combinations of diesel engine, electric engine, inverter, batteries and generators. This means the owner can select the best mode for the circumstances. For example, the yacht can sail under diesel or diesel-electric power to protected, unpolluted areas, then switch to the battery pack to drive onboard utilities such as A/C, boiler and ARG stabilizers for totally silent, zero-emission operation at anchor.

Combined with this new technology is the new Ferretti Wave Efficient Yacht (FER.WEY) "trans-planing" hull. Tested at the naval tank-testing facility in Potsdam, the hull is designed to avoid the stern-down "pooped" attitude of most displacement motor yachts when under way. This provides a more comfortable longitudinal trim, increases cruising efficiency and significantly reduces rolling. The deep prop tunnels and horizontal bulbous bow and skeg also allow the boat to rest on sandy bottoms or moor safely in tidal areas.

The Long Range 23 is the first production boat of its kind to be granted Green Star clean energy certification by RINA, the Italian Shipping Register.

"We’ve always said that for us the sea is above all a lifestyle," said Ferretti Chairman Norberto Ferretti. "We hope it is approached with ever-increasing sensitivity and awareness."

The new yacht is designed for spending extended time at sea in comfort and safety. Hence its exterior lines are a blend of Nordic workboat tradition and contemporary Italian design. The spacious interior is fitted out in a choice of warm woods, such as teak and oak, and natural fabrics. The full-beam owner’s suite is located amidships on the lower deck with an additional three or four guest cabins, depending on the owner’s choice of layout.

The first Long Range 23 will be presented at the Genoa Boat Show in October, after which we will bring you a full report on this technically innovative yacht.
