Waterfront: Jongert Power
Sailboat Builder Adds Motor Yacht Division to Its Core Business.

It’s been more than 10 years since Jongert built a boat without a mast and sails. That’s about to change, as the Dutch yachtbuilder recently revealed plans for the 2900MY, a 97-foot (29.6-meter) semi-displacement vessel.

Designed in partnership with Guido de Groot, the all-aluminum 2900MY will be powered by a pair of 1,400-hp C32 Caterpillar engines achieving a top speed of 25 knots. A three-seat bridge with an observer’s bench is forward on the main deck. A covered flybridge features a wet bar, roomy settee and a centerline helm. Eight guests can be accommodated in four cabins on the lower deck, including the owner’s suite, which is full-beam amidships. The crew mess, twin cabin and bath are in the stern.

Jongert’s newly formed motor yacht division plans to build yachts from 89 feet to 131 feet. The division is currently negotiating for the construction of several 118-foot versions of the 2900MY as well as more traditional 115-foot displacement motor yachts.
