Want of a flybridge drives the design of a Spanish-built sloop.
Waterfront: Latin Flair

Monty North, a shipyard in Barcelona, Spain, has started construction on an aluminum 31.3-meter sloop to launch in late 2008.

A flying bridge was the main request from the repeat client, who already owns a Monty North-built 24-meter ketch. His request to the builder’s design team for a 27-meter boat grew incrementally to 31.3 meters in order to accommodate the flybridge, while maintaining performance, stability and appearance.

Atop the deck salon, a comfortable flybridge includes a steering station, bar and an ample dinette. The spacious deck salon houses an inviting lounge, dining area, galley and a navigation station. The interior includes a large master suite aft and three double ensuite guest staterooms forward. The forepeak holds two double cabins for four crewmembers. The sails will hoist on an aluminum mast and a carbon-fiber roller-furling boom, balanced by a fixed keel providing a three-meter draft. Twin 360-hp engines are still to be selected.
