Waterfront: Marlow's Big Splash
The company’s new 86-footer takes shape in China.

What will be Marlow Yacht’s largest yacht is under construction at the Marlow-Norsemen Shipyard’s environmentally friendly facility near Xiamen, China. Hull No. 1 of the Marlow Explorer 86 Cockpit Motor Yacht is scheduled for launch in late 2007.

A pair of 850-hp C15 Caterpillars will propel the yacht to a top speed of 18 knots. A 4,000-gallon usable fuel capacity provides a 3,200-mile range at nine knots and 1,900 miles at 15 knots.

Two or three crew cabins can be located amidships between the full-beam master suite and engine room. Forward are two twins and a double. The main deck features the proven Marlow layout, with a lounge and dining area aft and the country kitchen and lower helm forward.

Of the three 86-footers sold, one has been ordered with an enclosed pilothouse on the upper deck, providing a comfy skylounge and eliminating the need for a lower helm.
