Waterfront: Mega-Multihull
Tasmainian trimaran on track for december launch.

NWBS 200
Contracted by an experienced owner seeking a large and, more important, a stable yacht, North West Bay Ships of Tasmania is nearing completion of a 200-foot, 20-knot trimaran. She is the first in the yard’s e-motion series.

Hydrodynamically, the yacht’s easily driven, slender center hull offers increased efficiency and reduced bow slamming. Combined with large active fore-and-aft ride control foils, the trimaran is expected to exhibit excellent motion control under- way and at rest. For example, at 20 knots in a two-meter quartering sea, the yacht will have 50 percent less vertical acceleration than a monohull of similar length.

Styled by Sam Sorgiovanni, the trimaran offers voluminous main and upper decks within its 50-foot beam, allowing the owner and all guests to be accommodated on these premium levels. High overheads and generously proportioned living and circulation areas contribute to the yacht’s uniquely spacious (even by megayacht standards) ambiance.

Sea trials will be conducted in Tasmania during January 2005.
