explorer yacht
Waterfront: New Territory
Moonen builds first explorer yacht.

Moonen 114
Moonen Shipyards’ latest contract is a departure for a shipyard known for its family cruisers. The updated-classic 114-foot research vessel was designed by Rene van der Velden with naval architecture by Stolk Marimecs and Moonen’s in-house team. An explorer yacht both in style and practicality, she features a seakindly hull – reinforced to receive Lloyd’s Register Ice Classification – with a pronounced forward sheer and bold spray chine topped by a utilitarian aluminum superstructure.

The design reflects its owners’ preference for outdoor living. Lacking a helm station, the top deck is reserved solely for entertaining. The bridge deck’s footprint is kept relatively short in order to create a spacious aft deck under the top-deck overhang. In addition, the superstructure is not carried to maximum beam, allowing room for full walkarounds on both the main and bridge decks.

The tri-deck motor yacht has four guest staterooms, an on-deck master suite, two salons and a large aft tender garage. She is slated for a spring 2006 delivery.
