France: The allure of the French Riviera has forever intrigued the world’s most experienced yachtsmen. But in the last few decades, many have steered clear of the region for its notorious shortage of boat service facilities. Enter Riviera Yachting Network (www.technicmarine.com), the Côte d’Azur’s first alliance of high-tech shipyards. West of Toulon lies the village of La Ciotat, rich in
shipbuilding history dating to ancient Greece. Today’s tradesmen will provide
mariners with services through Monaco Marine (www.monacomarine.com), which is
developing the largest private yacht facility in the world. Nestled on the edge
of town in Mogul National Park, this yard will offer slips, including 14 for
yachts up to 250 feet; two 600-ton cranes; Europe’s largest indoor painting
structure to comply with environmental standards; and a state-of-the-art
transfer system that uses underground rails to shift yachts throughout the
yard. Foselev Marine. The yard is currently refitting the 100-year-old Fife S/Y Marymaid. IMS is MTU–engine service certified and offers everything from paint to woodworking. Its facilities include a 330-ton lift and 30,000 square feet of warehouse space. Foselev Marine (www.foselevmarine.com) on the Bay of Toulon
offers 250 meters of sheltered dockage and a dry dock that can accommodate
yachts up to 75 meters. Foselev provides full service but specializes in hull
and superstructure work. La Ciotat. Photograph by Cody Field. Organized around a core of engineers and architects, ITM can execute everything from a major refit to minor repairs for both motor and sailing yachts. The yard’s résumé includes work on Mirabella C, Ambrosia, Haida G and Kingdom 5KR. The Côte d’Azur continues to captivate yachting travelers. With the Riviera Yachting Network in place, the riches of the Northern Mediterranean are more accessible than ever before. |
