Renowned designer of sailing megayachts Ron Holland has switched tacks for the moment to
develop a motor yacht series. Commissioned by client MCC, the first of the Marco
Polo line, a 45-meter transoceanic explorer yacht, is under construction
at the Cheoy Lee yard in China. A full-size hull mock-up created by Cheoy
Lee aided in optimizing the interior space plan to a level that would not
have been possible with drawings alone. The Marco Polo series is being
designed and built to Lloyd’s SSC 100A1 and MCA classification, as the intention
of MCC is to create a high-quality, cost-efficient yacht specifically designed
for reliable long-distance voyaging. Holland has included in her design a
refined bulbous bow, a low-resistance hullform built in steel, active
stabilizers, a unique twin rudder system and a lightweight composite
superstructure. Ron Holland Design |
