Altobridge’s Aeronautical & Maritime Gateway platform enables subscribers to
use their own cell phones while at sea. The user’s phone connects on demand to
the onboard cellular network, which then connects to the user’s land-based
cellular network via the yacht’s satellite communication system, such as
Inmarsat or Globalstar. It utilizes the existing service provider and calls made
at sea are charged to the normal phone bill.
The system will not
interfere with nearby land-based networks and shuts down automatically when
entering territorial waters, ensuring that the system complies with
international regulatory conditions. It also offers charter yacht operators the
ability to develop additional revenue streams.
